First Day Madness

Dear Diary,

Today was my first day in my new job. To start off, I had no sleep the night before because I still have the graveyard shift hangover. It's so hard to adjust my body with my new work shedule. Then, I was freakin' 15mins late for work. Yes, on my first day. How great, isn't it? I am not really used to the monday morning rush anymore since I've been working at night for almost a year. I knew the traffic would be pretty bad since it is monday but not as bad as it was earlier. I even had a hard time getting a cab. My new office is normally (meaning no traffic) 5-10mins away from our house but then my travel time earlier was about 30mins. Traffic was that bad!! I guess it was because of the rain downpour this morning. I had no choice but to inform the HR manager that I will come in late. Good thing she was running off late as well so she told me to just take my time.

When I arrived, I was told to be seated and waited for the HR manager to come since she will be the one to host the orientation for new hires. I conversed with the 2 new IT guys for the company. We are all new and we don't have an idea what the company really is about. When the HR arrived, we had a tour around the office, got introduced to all other employees and settled in a conference room where we had the orientation. The orientation was basically just about all the rules and regulations of the company, the do's and donts' and all that sort of stuff. I'm kind of worried that I could not blog in the office.... But I'm not yet so sure about that. We'll see. :)

After orientation, I went to another office to meet my new boss. I have actually met him last Saturday. He invited me to a dinner and I agreed to it. It was a great and fun night! I was tensed about it earlier in the week. I was, in fact, dreading about it because I was not sure if I could handle conversing with a boss one-on-one. But I survived!! And I like my new boss. He's almost a decade older than me but he acts like as if we were at the same age. He's cool, funny and really down-to-earth. We had a few drinks at the Distillery and had dinner in a Japanese restaurant. We talked about random topics like work, his background (He's british by the way!), food, hobbies and all that jazz. It was quite refreshing for me talking to him. I feel such a grown up woman! ;)

Back to today's agenda. We instantly started training. He discussed the overiew and general topics regarding the kind of work that I'll be doing. Financial work mainly. It's a bit difficult for me to train this time since I'm on my own. I couldn't ask anyone on the same level as I am about the things that I don't really understand. So it is just me and my British boss. Unlike in my previous job, I have some seniors to ask to whenever I'm having a hard time. But still, I just feel so blessed since my new boss has been very patient and good to me. :D

We had lunch together too! We went out to try a local fastfood restaurant and I paid for the food cos I really want to treat him something. Thinking about that lunch makes me smile. He's trying to immense himself with the culture and keeps on observing people. :)

So tomorrow I'll be meeting him again. He's only going to stay here until Thursday for my training. I am really learning a lot of things from him. I feel such a student all over again!! Can't wait to learn and master everything.☺

Hoping for a great day at work tomorrow,
Secret Diary Keeper
